Does your book have what it takes to engage readers from the very first page? Will it hook an agent and leave them begging for the rest of the manuscript?
My First Pages Review package was designed to do two things. First, I will look at the content to ensure this critical introduction to your story has everything it needs to hook readers and seduce agents so they can’t put your manuscript down. Secondly, I will complete a thorough line and copy edit to make sure these pages are polished and ready to wow your audience.
What Does This Service Include?
This package includes developmental, line, and copy editing of the first 1,750 words (approximately 5 pages) of your manuscript.
- Developmental edit focused on first-pages necessities. I will give you a one-page summary of which first-pages necessities you nail and which ones could use improvement. I’ll also include notes on what you can do to improve those weaknesses. This edit looks specifically at early character development and introduction, early plot points, narration, and other structural elements. (Learn more about developmental editing.)
- Line edit. This edit is all about making your story shine on a sentence level. I’ll enhance your word choice, make those words flow, and ensure your prose is clear and concise while also projecting your unique voice. (Learn more about line editing.)
- Copy edit. This edit focuses on writing fundamentals, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. (Learn more about copy editing.)
Who Is This Service For?
This editing option is a great choice for writers who have completed their manuscript, completed multiple revisions with feedback, and feel confident in the content and writing quality throughout but want to be sure those first pages shine. This is an especially helpful service for writers who intend to query agents. (Another service to consider if you’re preparing to query is my Submission Packet Review). It can also be very beneficial if you plan to self-publish—no matter who is reading your novel, you need to hook them with those first pages to keep them reading.
My First Pages Review service can also be very helpful for writers looking for early feedback on their opening pages, regardless of how far into the story they’ve written.
How Much Does It Cost?
This package costs $100.
The fee includes a full line and copy edit of the first 1750 words and a one page summary of how well the submission accomplishes all the things opening pages should.
